“BANQUETE” or “FROM MURILLO TO SVSES”.
Año 2021 Cuando compré en un anticuario esta reproducción de la obra de Murillo me atrajo, pero realmente no sabía que podría hacer con ella. Me parecía muy osado tratar de transformar una obra del genial pintor del siglo de oro español. Comencé con dudas pero tras intervenir el primer personaje, el de la derecha, vi que tenía que ser atrevida y hacer algo rompedor y muy actual. Sobre la lámina barnizada empecé a adherir recortes de personajes contemporáneos, a pintar sobre ellos con acrílico, a no tener porque ceñirme al espacio de la lámina y usar el marco también. Mantuve las manos, el melón y las uvas, para preservar y hacer reconocible el original y el título, pero dándole un aire totalmente distinto. Me encantan los dos jóvenes que presiden la obra, con sus ropas de colores intensos, tan urbanos, trap, frente a los niños desarrapados del original. Y por último coloqué las pantallas de tv clásicas y a la chica con una copa de vino tinto y comiéndose un helado de chocolate. El observador juzgará y sentirá algo distinto a lo mío frente a la obra. Year 2021 When I bought this reproduction of Murillo’s work at an antique dealer, I was attracted to it, but I really didn’t know what I could do with it. It seemed very daring to me to try to transform a work by the great painter of the Spanish Golden Age. I started with doubts but after the first character intervened, the one on the right, I saw that I had to be daring and do something groundbreaking and very current. On the varnished sheet I began to adhere cutouts of contemporary characters, to paint over them with acrylic, so as not to have to stick to the space of the sheet and use the frame as well. I kept the hands, the melon and the grapes, to preserve and make the original and the title recognizable, but giving it a totally different air. I love the two young people who preside over the work, with their clothes of intense colors, so urban, trap, in front of the ragged children of the original. And finally I placed the classic TV screens and the girl with a glass of red wine and eating a chocolate ice cream. The observer will judge and feel something different from mine in front of the work. SVSES
